The Great Castle (Grosse Burg) is the best know of the exhibiton quality special sets put out by Richter. In fact, it was put out twice. The first time was in 1891, although the drawings are dated 1889. Both the Great Fortress (Grosse Festung), the largest of these special sets, and the Great Castle were introduced together. Later, in 1909, the Great Castle was introduced as a supplement set to the set GK-NF # 34, Lyck. As a "stand alone" set the Great Castle contains 5,699 stones and as a supplement set, 3,561. The "stand alone" version was only known from advertisements until 1986, when a set was discovered in England.
